An island almost entirely underlain by reddish-brown laterite rock, rich in iron and aluminium oxide.
Pulau Panjang is underlain by laterite rock forming almost the entire island. The laterite is found spread across the beach surface as well as in boulder form around the island. This laterite is reddish-brown in colour due to being rich in iron and aluminium oxide from intensive chemical weathering.
