Frequently Asked Questions

What is Melaka Geopark?

Melaka Geopark refers to a cluster of candidate geosites in Melaka — including Tanjung Tuan, Pulau Besar, Pulau Undan, and Pulau Upeh — being researched for their geological, biodiversity, and cultural heritage significance, with the long-term goal of national and potentially UNESCO Global Geopark recognition.

How do I get to Tanjung Tuan?

Tanjung Tuan is located at the Melaka-Port Dickson border in Alor Gajah district, accessible by road. Visitor details will be updated here.

Is Melaka Geopark already a UNESCO Global Geopark?

Not yet. Melaka Geopark is currently an "Aspiring Geopark" working towards recognition as a National Geopark, with the long-term goal of becoming Malaysia's next UNESCO Global Geopark. The dossier preparation process is ongoing, led by a committee of geologists and heritage experts.

How many geosites are there in Melaka Geopark?

29 potential geosites have been identified across the districts of Jasin, Alor Gajah, and Melaka Tengah, covering rock diversity, landform diversity, anthropogenic diversity, and geological process diversity.

Do I need a guide to visit the geosites?

A guide is not compulsory for all sites, but is highly recommended for island sites and locations with less developed access, for safety and a more informative experience. Check our Geoguide Directory for certified guides you can contact directly.

Is there an entrance fee to visit the geosites?

Most geosites are publicly accessible with no entrance fee, though some may require boat transport (for island sites) or have parking charges. Please check individual geosite pages or contact us for the latest information.

Can schools organise educational visits?

Yes! We welcome school and student group visits. Visit our Education Programs page to see available modules and submit a visit request form, and our team will contact you to arrange the details.

How can I contribute or get involved with Melaka Geopark?

There are several ways to get involved - as a certified geoguide, through conservation and cleanup activities, event support, or content creation. Visit our "Get Involved" page to sign up.
